As a replacement for the reliable ZM series printers, the ZT400 series delivers advancements in print speed, connectivity options, management and support tools and has been engineered for years of performance in the most demanding environments.

The new Zebra ZT400 compliments Zebra’s existing ZT200 Series industrial printers. The ZT200 is ideal for customers that have lower volume applications; the ZT400 Series with its increased processing power and memory offers improved performance and a broader range of standard features and options.

Both versions (ZT410 and ZT420) feature USB, ZebraNet 10/100 Ethernet (wired) and Bluetooth as standard whilst wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n is a connectivity option available across the range.

The exam season can present some practical problems.

Founded in 1914, The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in Holland Park, West London is one of the highest achieving State Comprehensive schools  in the country. Awarded the Evening Standard Award for Academic Achievement and with specialisms in Maths, Computing and Science, the school offers outstanding opportunities to its pupils both academically and in the field of sports, music and the arts.

With the busy examination season fast approaching, the school had been searching for a new solution to a long standing problem.  According to School Registrar Andrew Bell “there is requirement that at every public examination, the specific seat reserved for each student needs to be clearly and accurately identified in the precise order. Given that there may be up to 300 students sitting an examination at any one time and there are two exams a day, this was an onerous task”.

After research, Andrew identified that this problem could be resolved by using a Zebra’s low-cost LP2824 desktop printer supplied by Smart Print and Labelling. “By using a Zebra desktop printer and our existing student database, we were able to accurately, quickly and easily print a card for each student sitting each examination, showing their name and unique number. More importantly, these are printed in the correct sequence and significantly saved us many hours of labour every day during the exam season”. Andrew goes onto say “as we enter the examination period this year, we feel better equipped to be able to provide our pupils with the support they need, in what can be a stressful time for them”.

What sort of labels are suitable for a Zebra GK420d printer

As the owner of a Zebra GK420d printer, you may be unsure of which labels from the wide selection we supply are suitable for your printer. In this article, we'll explain which labels are suitable, and perhaps more importantly, which aren't suitable.

The Zebra GK420d printer is a DIRECT THERMAL printer - that is, it uses chemically treated, heat sensitive paper that blackens when it passes under the printer's thermal printhead - you can learn more about the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer labels here. So, the GK420d doesn't use any other consumables to print an image (so no inks or thermal transfer ribbons required). The D in GK420d stands for direct thermal - at this point it may be worth explaining that the sister model to the GK420d is the GK420t (where the t denotes thermal transfer) - this model can use both direct thermal and thermal transfer labels.

OK - so with the printing technology explained, let us understand about the physical attributes of labels suitable for the Zebra GK420d printer.

The Zebra GK420d is one of the desktop family of printers - so the Genuine Zebra labels we supply for the Zebra GK420d printer are supplied on 25mm cores (the cardboard tube on which the labels are rolled - note - labels for the Zebra industrial range of printers are supplied on 76mm cores and these aren't suitable for the Zebra GK420d.

The Zebra GK420d printer has a maximum labels width of 102mm - that is the width of the label from left to right as it exits the printer.
