Zebra 105SL series - label and media loading

Here at Smart Print and Labelling, we have been putting together an instructional series showing our customers how to get the most out of their machines, and in this video we look at correctly loading media into the Zebra 105SL

Each printer will have a series of short videos organized into a playlist, covering everything from the basics to those more advanced questions, like setting a static IP address on a network printer.

We felt for the first part of our 105Sl tutorial videos it was appropriate to start at the beginning. You can't print without something to print on, so we look at installing and setting up the 105sl for print media.

We hope you find our videos informative and helpful, and if you have any questions you would like to be answered in future parts, don't hesitate to get in touch and we'll be happy to help.

ZD500 and ZD500R; Zebra want’s to get 'Close to You'

Since Zebra Technologies released the GX range of desktop printers they have been promising new models with NFC support and the ZD500 and ZD500R make good on this. Thanks to Zebra’s clever ‘PRINT TOUCH’ software, pairing devices and sending printing jobs could not be simpler.

Both printers utilise the same small form-factor seen in the other GX printers but with a larger LCD screen and more buttons to play with.  The ZD500 range is available in two flavours; 203dpi and 300dpi resolutions.

Here at http://www.smartlabelling.co.uk we like to spoil you, and we now supply the ZD500 and ZD500R to order here; http://www.smartlabelling.co.uk/zebra-zd500.html

The Z500 series can handle both thermal transfer and direct thermal labels, and can print on smaller labels often used in retail. Zebra have been kind enough to provide serial, parallel, USB and Ethernet connectivity, and wireless is optional.

The series is also one of the latest line of Zebra's (great mental image there) to feature the Link-OS® environment, an open platform that pairs an operating system for smart Zebra devices with software apps. This makes it easy to integrate, manage and maintain from anywhere around the globe.

For those that like their acronyms of the wireless kind, the ZD500R supports NFC and Zebra’s ‘PRINT TOUCH’ technology, and UHF and RFID encoding capabilities, making it ideal for retail tagging and tracking applications.

For ZD500 supplies and consumables we can't think of anyone better (or more handsome) then;

News: 40th Birthday of the UPC barcode

At 8.01am on June 26, 1974 shopper Clyde Dawson and Marsh supermarket cashier Sharon Buchannan made history when the first ever UPC (Unique Product Code) barcode marked item was scanned at a retail checkout. The NCR cash register in Troy, Ohio rang up 67 cents when a 10 pack of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit chewing gum was the first item randomly picked from up from an entire shopping cart of barcoded items – that pack of gum subsequently  went on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History.

To celebrate this historic and in my opinion pretty cool event I’ve put together this fun infographic in conjunction with http://www.cartridge-warehouse.co.uk/ , http://www.feedyourzebra.co.uk/ and http://www.smartlabelling.co.uk/

Infograph showing short history of UPC barcode
For a tech-reliant young man such as myself, it’s hard to imagine a world without barcodes. I cannot even begin to think how ‘fun’ stock control must have been. It’s for this reason I would appreciate hearing any stories about how barcodes have affected you or your business.

Top marks for Zebra LP2824 desktop printer

The exam season can present some practical problems.

Founded in 1914, The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in Holland Park, West London is one of the highest achieving State Comprehensive schools  in the country. Awarded the Evening Standard Award for Academic Achievement and with specialisms in Maths, Computing and Science, the school offers outstanding opportunities to its pupils both academically and in the field of sports, music and the arts.
With the busy examination season fast approaching, the school had been searching for a new solution to a long standing problem.  According to School Registrar Andrew Bell “there is requirement that at every public examination, the specific seat reserved for each student needs to be clearly and accurately identified in the precise order. Given that there may be up to 300 students sitting an examination at any one time and there are two exams a day, this was an onerous task”.
After research, Andrew identified that this problem could be resolved by using a Zebra’s low-cost LP2824 desktop printer supplied by Smart Print and Labelling“By using a Zebra desktop printer and our existing student database, we were able to accurately, quickly and easily print a card for each student sitting each examination, showing their name and unique number. More importantly, these are printed in the correct sequence and significantly saved us many hours of labour every day during the exam season”. Andrew goes onto say “as we enter the examination period this year, we feel better equipped to be able to provide our pupils with the support they need, in what can be a stressful time for them”.

What sort of labels are suitable for a Zebra GK420d printer

As the owner of a Zebra GK420d printer, you may be unsure of which labels from the wide selection we supply are suitable for your printer. In this article, we'll explain which labels are suitable, and perhaps more importantly, which aren't suitable.

The Zebra GK420d printer is a DIRECT THERMAL printer - that is, it uses chemically treated, heat sensitive paper that blackens when it passes under the printer's thermal printhead - you can learn more about the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer labels here. So, the GK420d doesn't use any other consumables to print an image (so no inks or thermal transfer ribbons required). The D in GK420d stands for direct thermal - at this point it may be worth explaining that the sister model to the GK420d is the GK420t (where the denotes thermal transfer) - this model can use both direct thermal and thermal transfer labels.
OK - so with the printing technology explained, let us understand about the physical attributes of labels suitable for the Zebra GK420d printer.
The Zebra GK420d is one of the desktop family of printers - so the Genuine Zebra labels we supply for the Zebra GK420d printer are supplied on 25mm cores (the cardboard tube on which the labels are rolled - note - labels for the Zebra industrial range of printers are supplied on 76mm cores and these aren't suitable for the Zebra GK420d.
The Zebra GK420d printer has a maximum labels width of 102mm - that is the width of the label from left to right as it exits the printer.

So, when browsing www.smartlabelling.co.uk  for labels suitable for your Zebra GK420d printer, simply :
or
Hover your mouse over "NEW labels by model" in the navigation bar
